On December 14, 1969, under intense student pressure, the University of Washington Philosophy Department extends John Chambless's contract. Chambless is a supporter of student activism and was a key organizer of the Sky River Rock Festival, the country's first open-air, multi-day rock festival, which took place in August 1968.
Chambless was denied tenure and let go in the spring of 1973.
