1870 Census: Population tops 1,100 in Seattle and 2,100 in King County in 1870.

In 1870, the U.S. Federal Census counts a population of 2,120 in King County. Of the 22 counties in the territory, King County ranks fourth. The official population of the one-year-old incorporated town of Seattle totals 1,107, including a white population of 1,094 and an African American (called "colored") population of 13. The Seattle count does not include 32 Chinese, 11 Indians, and 1 Kanaka (Hawaiian) included in the King County totals. These additions give the recently incorporated town a total population of 1,151. In 1870, Seattle is the third largest town in Washington Territory.
