Greater Ballard
Ballard and its neighboring communities extend north from Salmon Bay to NW 100th Street between Puget Sound on the west and 8th Avenue NW on the east. Ballard was incorporated in 1890 and named for a sea captain who guided its initial development, and the town's mills and fishing fleet attracted thousands of Scandinavian immigrants in the early 1900s. Ballard annexed to Seattle in 1907 and the present Seattle city limits were later extended north. Attractions include the Ballard Historic District, Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, Shilshole Marina, and Golden Gardens Park.
