About HistoryLink.org

You contribution to HistgoryLunch will go to fund HistoryLink.org and the HistoryLink Education Initiative

Launched in 1998, HistoryLink.org is an evolving online encyclopedia of Washington state and local history. It provides a free, authoritative, and easily accessible history reference for the benefit of students, teachers, journalists, scholars, researchers, and the general public. All essays and features on this site are original works prepared exclusively for HistoryLink.org by staff historians, contract writers, volunteers, and consulting experts.

HistoryLink.org has grown to serve the entire state with more than 6,000 original, sourced essays as of June 2011. It now serves an average of 5,000 unique visitors a day — one third of whom are K-12 teachers and students.

What is HistoryLunch?

HistoryLunch was launched in 2008 to raise funds for HistoryLink’s Education Initiative, which provides teachers and students with top notch, relevant historical information about Washington state.

In the last three years, HistoryLunch has raised more than $150,000 from corporate and community partners who want to support expanded access to history for the teachers, students and citizens of Washington state. The development of this new online resource could not have come at a better time in the evolution of personal digital learning. Past speakers were author and journalist Tim Egan, and film maker Ken Burns. We expect an audience of 300+ community, civic and opinion leaders, elected officials, and individuals from the high tech and education advocacy sectors to join us this year.
